This work focuses on the intersection between verbal translation and psychic mediumship.

I organized an artist talk by Jun Yang (b.1975 China/Austria) at Tokyo University
of the Arts, with Noriko Kobayashi as the interpreter, on November 17, 2011.

I commissioned Hikaru Fujii to shoot only Kobayashi, not Yang, with his video camera, throughout the talk.
The subtitles in the resultant film is re-translation by Yu Araki, based only on the Japanese translation by Kobayashi.

I chose Jun Yang because his work, in my view, explores uncertainty of self in translation,
which reflects the very structure of this piece itself.

I am a translator myself, and I met Jun Yang in 2010, when I translated the English dialogue
of his film piece "A Short Story on Forgetting and Remembering" into Japanese subtitles.
Thinking back now, that was the very beginning of this project - that was when I found the
act of translation similar to that of ghost-writing.
